The Society
The Barking & District Historical Society was founded in 1934 to encourage interest in the history of the Barking district.

Indoor talks are held at Harp House, 16 Helmore Road, Barking, IG11 9PH. The 62 bus stops nearby. It is a short walk from Upney Underground Station (District Line).

Talks are free to members and £1.50 to non-members. Visitors are welcome to attend. Refreshments are normally available after the talk. Raffles are held. Most talks are illustrated with slides.

Talks take place on the first Monday evening of the month between September and June, except January. Recent topics have included: The Glennys of Barking, Barking and Dagenham 50 years on, Ghosts and Graves of Barking and Dagenham, Prefabs, Shetland and London Riots.
Members are encouraged to contribute to our annual newsletter which contains a variety of interesting articles, announcements of future events, notices and reviews of recent publications, Society business and other items of relevance to the local history of Barking and district.
