MONTHLY NEWSLETTER MARCH 2017

SOCIETY AND OTHER NEWS

Twentyone members, including 90 year old Joy Lines, one of our vice-presidents, attended the post-Christmas lunch at St, Margaret’s on Tuesday 13th February. Volunteers at the church waited on our table which was set out with Christmas crackers and place names. Our grateful thanks go to Carol Brabender and her team for a very successful social occasion. Thanks also to Pat Manley for making the initial arrangements.

Tom White, who served on our committee for many years, has now moved to Blackpool to be near his daughter; we wish Tom and Eve the best of luck in their new home.

We still have seats for the coach trip to the 50th Thriplow Daffodil Weekend on Sunday 18th March. £19 which includes coach travel and entrance fee. Full payment is due this month. See Richard Chapman if you wish to book.

We are also taking bookings for a coach trip to the Ely Cathedral Flower Festival on Sunday 24th June. This event takes place every four years and promises to be even better than the last one! We do not have the final cost yet, but we expect it to be about £20, which will include coach travel and entrance fee to the festival, Deposits will be taken when all arrangements have been confirmed.

Our next meeting is on Monday 9th April when Kenneth Greenway will talk about Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park. Ken has been widely recognised for his drive and enthusiasm in managing this award-winning park.

Please note that there is a change of programme for the 14th May meeting when John Price will now deliver a talk entitled Heroes of Postman’s Park: heroic self-sacrifice in Victorian London.
